You just went home from the office, youre exhausted and hungry, all you want to do is get inside your home, and catch up on your favorite TV show. You reach into your bag and whats in there? Not your house keys. You try to reach for your pocket before remembering you dont have any pockets. No keys in the car, either.
So, what now?
Good thing youve read these helpful tips! Remember these tips when youre in this situation:
Call for help
Call your housemates or roommates if they can get home as soon as possible so you can now relax and watch your favorite show. If you live alone and if your partner or anyone close to you has a copy of your keys, now is the time to call them up. Ask if maybe they can swing by to help you get inside your house. Chances are, theyll be happy to help.
Look for open windows
If that is not an option, you can look for an open window you can climb up on, preferably on the first floor. If you find one, great! Just remember to lock them up from now on for safety reasons.
If you find one on the upper floor, do not climb unless there are sturdy materials which you can climb in. But still, be extra careful, your life is much more valuable than the TV show youre going to miss.
Call your Landlord
If you live in a building, climbing windows is not even worth mentioning. But youre lucky if your Landlord lives in the same building or area as you. If so, give them a call and ask for help. If they are available, they may be willing to help (as long as theyre not the grumpy type).
Use tools
You can use tools if you know how to use them. A credit card, for example, can be used to open doors (though you would not risk damaging your credit card).
These methods only work on certain locks. If this doesnt work on your lock, you may need to find another method.
If you are successful, remember to call a locksmith to get your locks replaced with a more reliable lock. It may be harder for you to break into your home again, but everyone else will be having a harder time picking your lock, too.
Call a Locksmith
If these options are not ideal to you, calling a locksmith is the way to go. But, remember, locksmiths are professionals, so they require a fee for their services. Locksmiths offer 24/7 services so you can call them even in ungodly hours, which is convenient because theres no schedule when it comes to locking yourself out. This article is not to be used for breaking into others homes (youll get apprehended for that). This article is for the times you ever find yourself locked out of your own home. So before letting this happen to you, I suggest you take precautionary measures now to save yourself from the stress and possibly a missed TV show episode this may cause.
