Senators Introduce Bill to Reauthorize
Pipeline Safety Act
The measure’s provisions would expand civil penalties for violating pipeline regulations and add fines for obstructing regulators, expand excess flow valve requirements to include multifamily buildings and small commercial facilities, and require installation of automatic or remote-controlled shutoff valves on new transmission pipelines.

Combined, the proposed pipelines would move almost 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas a day — enough to fuel about 9 million homes. It would amount to a roughly 25 percent increase over current gas exports from Colorado, Wyoming and Utah.

The energy giant has a 25% stake in the 1,679-mile line that stretches from northwestern Colorado to eastern Ohio and can deliver 1.8 billion cubic feet per day of gas. The final eastern leg of the REX project became operational this month.
