Unemployment Rate in Wyoming Continues to Drop

The Wyoming Department of Employment’s Research and Planning section reported today that the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased .2 percent from November to December, 2010. Natural resources and mining (including oil and gas) posted the largest job gains (3,200 jobs, or 13.1 percent), the section reports.

Latest State Jobs Report Reflects Energy Slowdown

Wednesday’s report shows Wyoming’s employment slowed in February, but it still managed to increase faster than in any other state. Reflecting the slowdown in oil and gas activity, the January to February seasonal employment pattern increased by only 100 jobs, compared to a normal year of roughly 1,400 jobs.

BLM Flooded with Protests on Lease Sales
Planned Near Flaming Gorge

The Federal agency has received 127 protests on its plans to sell oil and gas leases in the popular Little Mountain hunting and recreation area near Flaming Gorge Reservoir, south of Rock Springs. 18,049 acres have been identified for a lease sale scheduled on Dec. 2.
