Duke Energy Gets $231 Financing for Top-of-the-World Development
The power company said it has arranged an 18-year non-recourse term loan and nearly $38 million in letters of credit for the massive project near Casper, which launched commercial operation in October, and features 66 GE 1.5MW wind turbines and 44 Siemens 2.3MW turbines.

PacifiCorp Starts Up 111MW Wind Farm
in Carbon County
“These are cost-effective resources that are needed to help meet our customers’ growing electricity needs in Wyoming and the other five states we serve, NOT for exporting electricity to power-hungry market in the Southwest,” said Mark Tallman, PacifiCorp vice president of renewable resource.

The 200-megawatt (MW) wind farm, located in Converse County, supplies wind energy to PacifiCorp under the terms of a 20-year power purchase agreement. The 110 wind turbines that comprise the Top of the World project are capable of producing enough electricity to power approximately 60,000 homes.

The Power Company of Wyoming wants to build a 1,000-turbine wind farm on part of a 486-square-mile cattle ranch near Rawlins. To get project approval, the company must address concerns related to the sage grouse. More than half of the project site overlaps with “core” habitat area designated by the state for special protection.

Duke Energy Gets $22 Million Grant for
Energy Storage Project
The batteries at the company’s Energy’s Notrees Windpower Project in Ector and Winkler counties, Texas, will store excess wind energy and discharge it whenever demand for electricity is highest. If all goes well, the application could be expanded to other states with significant wind resources like Wyoming.
