Wyoming Senate Awaits More Information on Coal Tax Valuation Bill

CHEYENNE — The Wyoming Senate is expected to receive additional information Monday on the impact a change in the method of valuing coal for tax purposes will have on state revenues.

Sen. John Hines, R-Gillette, said he will have a chart with figures showing how House Bill 38 will affect state severance and ad valorem taxes for the counties over two or three years.

Lawmakers have been working under the assumption that the proposed change would be revenue-neutral. However, the Wyoming Department of Revenue estimated the change would cost the state more than $14 million in lost taxes through the 2015 fiscal year. MORE …
