Utility Seeks OK for Wyoming Power Plant Upgrades

Rocky Mountain Power is asking state regulators for permission to extend the life of its Naughton coal-fired power plant in southwest Wyoming with costly pollution control upgrades.
At issue is whether the utility will be allowed to extend the life of the 700-megawatt plant near Kemmerer with upgrades, whose cost will eventually get passed on to consumers, to make sure the plant meets greenhouse gas emissions standards.
But while the state’s consumer advocate office supports Rocky Mountain Power’s upgrade request, a landowners group wants the utility to consider a move away from coal, and the state’s industrial-level energy consumers say they want more information before they weigh in. Read MORE …
