A wind power tax subcommittee will meet at Mills City Hall on Aug. 31. The legisltative group is examining how wind energy is taxed.
The panel is currently studying possible changes to the state’s tax structure for wind, which has been a contentious issue for developers, lawmakers and the governor’s office.
The wind industry released a study in June showing Wyoming’s tax structure to be the most onerous of Rocky Mountain states.
This year, lawmakers passed a $1 per megawatt hour wind energy generation tax that takes effect in 2012. The governor’s office says other factors also impact the cost of a project, including capacity, capital cost and federal incentives.
