Developers Forging Ahead with Wyo-Colo Transmission Line
Updated by Staff
Despite slow going, a power transmission project line linking the wind fields of southeast Wyoming and Colorado’s Front Range is still being pushed by developers. New Jersey-based LS Power and the Wyoming Infrastructure Authority are partnering to develop the 180-mile line between substations at Wheatland and Brush, Colorado.
As we reported in our sister site, Colorado Energy News, last August, the Wyoming-Colorado Intertie project suffered a setback when Xcel Energy rejected wind bids from that region of Wyoming as a renewable energy source for its Colorado customers.
Since then, the developers have reviewed the project on their own and say their study concludes that Wyoming’s wind resources are stronger and lower-priced than those in Colorado. They’re continuing to promote the transmission project to markets in Colorado.
