House Bill Proposes Big Changes to Drilling
on Public Lands

Still in the “discussion draft” phase, the bill would raise the royalties companies pay to drill on federal lands from 12.5 to 18.75 percent and shorten lease terms from 10 to five years. A spokesman for the energy industry says that, if enacted, the proposal will hurt independent, smaller oil and gas operators the most.

Wyoming’s new Task Force on Wind Energy will get organized May 20 at its first meeting beginning at 1 p.m. in Room 302 in the State Capitol. The committee, which includes three senators, four representatives, a county commissioner and industry person, will adopt a plan of action for the one-year study.

Cleaner Coal Research on Tap for Cheyenne

The cooperative project between the University and GE Energy will be located in the Cheyenne Business Parkway on the eastern side of the city off of Interstate 80. When in operation, the facility will research technologies that turn coal into natural gas to produce electricity with limited greenhouse gas emissions.
