Duke Launches Another Wind Power Project
in Wyoming
By WEN Staff
Duke Energy’s geographical and business footprint in Wyoming is getting larger, with the announcement that it is building another wind-energy project in the state.
The 42-megawatt Silver Sage wind-power project will be Duke Energy’s third wind facility in the state and it is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The Charlotte-based power company’s new 42-megawatt, 20-turbine wind project will be added to a power portfolio that already includes a 29-megawatt facility in Cheyenne. Duke says it plans to complete a 99-megawatt project near Casper by 2010.
Duke signed several 20-year agreements to sell the electricity generated at the Silver Sage site to Cheyenne Light Fuel & Power and Colorado-based Platte River Power Authority.
Said Wouter van Kempen, preident of Duke Energy Generation Services,“The Silver Sage project is another sign of the momentum we’re building in our renewable energy business. Projects such as Silver Sage are helping Duke Energy meet the growing demand for electricity produced from clean, inexhaustible sources like wind.”
