RAWLINS - The construction and operation of two major wind farms in the south-central region of the state will create more than 1,000 jobs, according to the Power Company of Wyoming.

The company, a subsidiary of Anschutz Corporation out of
Denver, is moving forward with plans to build 1,000 wind
turbines outside Rawlins.

This past week Vice President Roxane Perruso of Power Company of Wyoming, told the Carbon County Commission  that the Sierra Madre and Chokecherry wind farms will be constructed in three phases, with the three-year project expected to be launched in 2011.

According to Perruso, her company expects to employ nearly 1,300 people during the peak of construction, and more than 100 operational and administrative positions once construction is complete.
