Wyoming Gets U.S. Green Building Council Chapter
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A group of Wyoming designers, builders and others has created a source for information about environmentally friendly building construction.
John Griffith is vice president of the new Wyoming Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. He says one goal of the new chapter is to dispel misconceptions about sustainable building practices.
Griffith says Wyoming is well-suited for environmentally friendly buildings. He says Wyoming gets abundant sunshine and its high elevation magnifies the sun’s intensity.
As a result, solar panels in Wyoming can be 20% more productive than in the Southwest.
The U.S. Green Building Council uses a building rating system called the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design scale. A new library in Cheyenne achieved LEED gold certification, which is the second highest rating on the scale.
